Corrosion Protection of Insulator Fittings
The metal fittings on insulators — caps, pins, clevises, and corona rings — are typically hot-dip galvanized for corrosion protection. Salt spray testing per ISO 9227 is the standard accelerated test for verifying galvanizing quality. A properly galvanized fitting should withstand 500-1000 hours of neutral salt spray without red rust appearing on the surface.
