FRP Core Rod Electrical Integrity Testing
The oil puncture test is a sample test required by IEC 61109 for composite insulators. It measures the dielectric breakdown voltage of the FRP core rod material in an oil medium to eliminate surface effects. A low breakdown voltage indicates manufacturing defects such as voids, contamination, or insufficient resin impregnation in the glass fiber composite.
