Key Features

The Electromechanical Test in IEC 60383

The electromechanical damage load test is one of the most critical type tests for porcelain disc insulators. The insulator is subjected to simultaneous mechanical tensile load and power-frequency voltage. The test verifies that the insulator head design can withstand combined electrical and mechanical stress without puncture or mechanical failure.

Test Procedure Overview

Per IEC 60383-1, the insulator is mounted in a tensile testing machine and energized at a specified voltage level (typically 75-80% of the dry flashover voltage). The mechanical load is increased until failure occurs. The combined failure must occur at no less than the specified electromechanical failing load.
